The text file is relayed to this led belt buckle modified into a chain for blingability, and run through an arduino micro-controller to update the stock price on the fly.

Sriracha Marker in OpenFrameworks

One of my favorite things to do was “hoodratthingswithfriends” and still is. When I first got into graffiti I had thought that tagging was pure childish vandalism but as I went out more and more I began to see a beauty in the handstyles of all the other writers in the community each person had very different ways of representing an “S” in the tag and so on. All the different techniques for tags and each person having a very particular motion and beauty to his or her tag. Not only did each person have very unique way of “getting up” but it seemed that they all had very unique motives for doing graffiti in the first place. As graffiti,  it seemed to me, became an extension of the advertising arm; even graffiti artists themselves took to creating street art to promote their upcoming solo show at X gallery in Chelsea I started to appreciate more this chicken scratch on the walls.  To most people I pointed it out the tags to, it was illegible, but for those familiar with particular handstyles and other subtleties of this artform, certain ones were immediately recognizable whether the individual letters could be deciphered or not.  I began to become really interested the  pichação in particular because of their unity amongst all pichadores. In the states it was common to have rival graf crews crossed out tags with derogatory statements like “toy” aimed at less skilled writers, the writers of Sao Paolo have an unwritten code of respect for other pichadores rarely would one see this type of thing  happen. The pichadores respected one another in their practice and felt the way to prove oneself was to go above(height) from the rest. Sometime from scaling very tall skyscrapers or sometimes with the help of the brothers and sisters.

This particular interest in the picadors of sao pualo has influence my wn personal handstyle, and the always prevalent DIY aesthetics of graffiti culture had brought me to make many different kinds of DIY markers over the years. I experiments with steel tip, shoe polish mops and many others, but my favorite was this siracha marker, which combined both my love of the spicy hot sauce flavors of the orient, as well as my love for dirty raw drippy graffiti tags.

Below are the general ingredients although I tended to have a very unscientific mixture changing depending on how drippy I wanted the marker.

Ingredients include: Paint thinner(for fast drying and thinner drips), fish oil(creates a shimmer to the inks), oil based metal enamel(heavduty industrial paint), and for ome reason key to all good markers art DOT3 break fluid(creates a ghosting effect if it gets buffed).

When I began to experiment in coding drawing tools using OpenFrameworks, I decided this would keep me grounded and feeling close to home. So here is a tag of mine using the track pad(much less control than full arm motions I like with tagging) but still fun.

you can download the code for this Digital Sriracha marker at my GITHUB

Boxes

“Boxes” was an installation I executed at Andenken Gallery for the “Product” curated by Adam Sikorski.  Trying to cut costs of an installation I sought out the use of found objects and post consumer recycled material.  Finding the most readily available material in bulk to be cardboard so I used the shape and colors to make this installation in part of the gallery.  When it was time to take down the cardboard for after the show it seemed only natural to recycle the cardboard into something usable once again, so I set out gluing hundreds of pieces of cardboard together to make the chair pictured above.

Black Metal Coffee

Black Metal Coffee is an animatic done in a short time mashing up classic homemaking magazines with black metal musicians, and illustrates how to enjoy coffee the Black Metal way.

Friends of Brian

Friends of Brian is an old form of technology brought back in the modern day.  The concept of using telephone poles as ad-space is an age old tradition, usually reserved for selling old vacuum cleaners or finding lost cats, this project uses this space for a sort of “friends wanted” in reverse,  similar to Craigslist

NGO Palliative Care

Mobile Advocacy: Children’s Palliative Care

The mission consisted of three goals. The first is to raise the awareness that “Children’s Palliative Care is a Basic Human Right”. The second is to connect members via personalized distributed communication platform. The third is to create a community in order to provide a space for people to get support and share resources as the idea of a “palliative care” for children is not always easily understood by parents or accepted by medical professionals.

We wanted to design an innovative telecommunications system with the use of SMS. We were also aware that this system needs to cater to an international crowd and all types of mobile phones. Everyone in the world has access or owns a mobile device regardless of the brand or model, which meant that everyone in the world had SMS in common.

For the three month project: 1)Provide Access to System Via SMS: Mobile platform for Q&A communication among health care professionals,
caregivers and patients in support of Children’s Palliative Care. Software: TWILIO built with PHP. 2) Provide a platform for direct interaction, create an online
forum those with access to a computer. 3) Enhance communication, dialogue, information exchange, suggestions, responses, learning, education.

USAGE:
No.1- Create and advocacy campaign structured around the message that children’s “Palliative Care is a Basic Human Right”. The campaign will
funnel people to the Web Platform where we will see “endorsers”, case studies and health care providers who are well informed practitioners
of palliative care. The “point of ignition” will be in the form of a traditional campaign (i.e. printed materials; ads, posters, brochures handed
to patients, also radio).
No. 2- Target audience would be uninformed practitioners.
No. 3- Web platform also contains mobile registration process, database, social media capabilities, SMS, resources, etc. This is a place for
“endorsers” to share their stories, encourage participation and offer support/ advice.
No. 4- Doctors will encourage children and parents to register
for SMS messages that will guide help them as they deal with the prognosis.

RACK CARDS:
For distribution and instructions.

Hip Hop Versus

Hip Hop Versus is a rap lyric database gathered from user input of more than 11,000 songs retooled into a rap battling platform. Its focus is on frequency of word usage in lyrics and aims to gather information pertaining to marketing strategies such as brand repetition, boasting, and comparison. The idea behind this database is the more frequently a brand product or otherwise is mentioned the more weight it carries. The more weight it carries is through the quantified outcome of the search. For instance, one might argue that the 64 Chevrolet Impala is the gangster rap automobile of choice, while another may argue that a Cadillac has more weight in the world of Hip Hop. A simple search on my Hip Hop Versus database will reveal that, in fact the Cadillac brand is mention five times more frequently than Impalas. Hip Hop Versus proves that the Cadillac brand has more clout than the Chevrolet Impala brand as far as marketing and branding is concerned within Hip Hop.

Mo Money Mo Problems

Q: How you livin Biggie smalls?
A: In mansion and Benz’s
Givin ends to my friends and it feels stupendous
Tremendous cream, fuck a dollar and a dream
Still tote gats strapped with infrared beams
Choppin o’s, smokin lye an’ Optimo’s
Money hoes and clothes all a nigga knows

This project started with these woodcuts made to print on money featuring Notorious BIG and a famous quote mo money mo problems by the same.  I printed nearly 500 separate bills ranging from $1 $5 and $10 and spent them throughout the course of nearly a month usually as tips.  The project all tied together when a customer at the art store I worked at used a five dollar biggie buck to purchase art supplies and luckily i was tending the cash.  I ask the kid where he got the bill and he said he got it as changed at the goodwill thrift store.  Funny thing is that I never spent any money at the goodwill, so I can only assume that the money made it natural cycle and ended back up in my hands.

The other half of this project was another woodblock stamp I used to print on the classified ads for job listings and pasted them around the city at various bus stops and public locations.

chemistry is fun

This mural was done in the office of Dr. Steven Boone, Chemistry Professor at The University of Central Missouri.  The girl on the opposing wall is Steve’s daughter and she is blowing bubbles that transform into a molecule structure which is that of the hallucinogenic substance LSD.  What appears as Circles at the entry of the room is actually an optical illusion to make the room look less long and narrow. Dr. Boone later told me I was missing a double bond(could’ve been a bad batch)and I made a long trip from Colorado to Missouri to fix it.

DNC vs Denver Homeless

During the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver Colorado, The homeless were given tickets to the zoo, tickets to the movies, and some even one way bus tickets. The reasoning the city had for giving them movie tickets was because many were uprooted during DNC activities, so I put some back in the places they would normally I would normally see those down on their luck brothers.

Wall 2.0

no more are these walls ROM “read only memory”. new york city is now beta testing a new form of communication “wall 2.0” walls with more RAM “random access memory” which can be read and written over. Talk about innovation (way to go nyc)

Creations of the creator

This was an installation done in the UCM gallery for the 2008 senior show. I got the tree stump from a woodpile out on my my buddy Joe’s farm; although the limb had been laying detached for months, it sprouted leaves and new life before the opening.

Dumpster Art

When I was asked by friend and wonderful comedian Abbey Londer to create and installation for her warehouse comedy show, I found materials to create where any thrifty starving artist would. I scoured the streets of LA for inspiration as well as found materials in every way possible. I stretched canvas from old bed sheets and used discarded wood as a substrate, I used mistinted paint and anything that could be used. In the end this show was a success! I was able to keep the prices low and the all the pieces from the show sold. There is nothing more depressing than unsold pieces taking up space around my studio. and the icing on the cake was laughter was had by all.

Gangster Mathematics

“Gangster Mathematics is a culmination of two years of shared studio and living space between two young Denver artists. Formerly the only full time residents of the recently closed Block Building/ Andenken Gallery, McFadden and Sikorski have become a duo of awesome power matching that of Tango and Cash or even possibly Larry and Balki of Perfect Strangers. Diverse in their display, influences from Renaissance masters to Warren G can be identified in the paintings, prints, and drawings that comprise this show of all previously unreleased material. Certainly a not to be missed body of significant work produced by two true ride to die thug mathemagicians.”

For Fresh Friday in May INDYINK is proud to present “Gangster Mathematics” New works from Adam Sikorski and Brian McFadden. This show will feature extensive new works in a variety of mediums from both artists including limited edition screen prints and T-shirts. Artist reception will be at INDYINK at 84s. Broadway, Denver, CO on May 7 from 7-11pm and the show will run until June 2nd.

Image to Sound and Back

Fellow maker FuzzyWobble and I teamed up to develop the most useless and clumsy wireless data-stream.  It basically takes an Image and converts each pixel to a sound, the sound is picked up by the second computers built in microphone and translated back into the same image.  We pretty much reinvented Wonka Vision.

Hoodrats

Hoodrats was a projects started with no direction and ended with a similar attitude. This project started out as a successful yet labor intensive stuffed animal venture, soon spun off into street art projects, a painting series, some small creature even ended up in the wild on several continents.

EBT

This Project was part of a campaign to help make folks aware of the benefits of food stamps in a toungue and cheek manor.  Fellow artist Adam Sikorski and I posted these fake Quest ads all over the city of Los Angeles in hopes of making people aware of the benefits they might be missing out on.  FREE SHIT, CASH IN!

Toy Sauce

This project started out as a fun filling in the buffmonster grey patchwork with some color and a stencil of the ms paint fill can. Eventually I started going around and filling a bunch of random taggers hollows with this bright paint, later came the toy sauce on the can which wasn’t received well until the artists found out I did it and realized it was pretty much just a joke.
